10.1b Demographic Transition Model

The demographic transition model posits that high birth rates (which contribute to population growth) decline over time, such that death occurs more often than birth. The United States has low birth and death rates. However, the population has continued to grow due to immigration (see Chapter 9). Figure 10.3 provides an overview of the stages of demographic transition.
