10.3c5 Multifactor Theory
Multifactor theory proposes that multiple factors influence the emergence and success of a social movement (DeFronzo & Gill, 2020). These factors include feelings of deprivation or strain, shared beliefs or ideology about the cause of deprivation or strain, mobilization of resources, including access to a means of communication, dramatic factors to justify action, and the response by the government (such as police or military action to suppress the movement).
