LO 4.5: Summarize explanations for the development of the self.

Socialization and social interaction contribute to how people develop a sense of self. The self is one’s feeling of oneself as distinct from others and develops through interactions with others. The self is about a person’s internal experience, including thoughts, emotions, and self-perception, and it contributes to developing one’s identity. This section describes theories about how the self develops: role-taking theory, the looking-glass self, double consciousness, and impression management.
