Socialization is a process by which individuals learn the norms and culture of the groups to which they belong (see Chapter 4). Thus, family, media, religion, schools, and other social groups influence the way individuals are socialized. This section uses a microsociological approach to examine socialization associated with gender, sex, and sexuality.
